Milwaukee, WI – A sharp, icy wind is cutting across Lake Michigan this morning as Wisconsin braces for a bitter cold stretch heading into the weekend. After a brief break from snow, another light round of flurries could arrive Friday, followed by subzero wind chills and highs that barely break the single digits by Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, skies will turn partly cloudy today before snow chances return late Friday afternoon. Temperatures will hold near 26°F Friday, then tumble into the single digits by Saturday, with wind chills between -5°F and -15°F through early Sunday. Even light snow could make roads slick across I-43, I-94, and Highway 41, especially where temperatures remain below freezing all day.

Meteorologists caution that brief bursts of lake-effect snow may develop late Saturday as colder air moves over the open lake. “It won’t take much snow to make travel slippery,” forecasters said, urging drivers to slow down and prepare for rapidly changing visibility.

Sunday looks brutally cold, with sunshine offering little relief — a high of just 11°F and a low near 0°F expected by nightfall. Wind chills may dip into dangerous territory, making it critical to limit outdoor exposure and check on elderly neighbors or those without heat.

Five-Day Outlook:

  • Friday: 30% snow chance, high 26°F.
  • Saturday: Frigid, light snow possible, high 6°F, low -4°F.
  • Sunday: Sunny but cold, high 11°F, low 0°F.
  • Monday: Partly sunny, high 23°F.
  • Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, high near 34°F.
