Milwaukee, WI –Strong waves and a rising risk of thunderstorms could complicate plans across southeast Wisconsin as Father’s Day weekend begins.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, a Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for Sheboygan, Ozaukee, Milwaukee, and Racine Counties from 7 p.m. Friday through early Saturday. Dangerous 3 to 5 foot waves, longshore currents, and rip currents are likely due to persistent northeast winds. Swimmers are urged to stay out of Lake Michigan and avoid piers and breakwalls.

Starting Friday evening, a slight chance of thunderstorms develops after 10 p.m., with isolated activity expected across central and southern Wisconsin. While storms remain scattered Friday night, storm chances increase through Sunday. The highest likelihood of storms arrives Sunday night into Monday, with a 40% chance of thunderstorms continuing into Tuesday and Wednesday.

Road conditions could also be affected, particularly along I-794 and lakefront routes, where high waves and wet conditions may reduce visibility or create ponding.

Expect partly sunny skies Friday and Saturday, with highs near 68–69°F. Sunday and Monday climb into the low to mid 70s, but increased humidity may fuel more storm activity.

⚠️ Stay weather-aware and avoid unnecessary lakefront travel during high surf periods.
