MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Light but steady snow continues to blanket southern Wisconsin this evening, leading to slick travel for the evening commute and reduced visibility on major highways. The National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan reports that snowfall will gradually taper from west to east between 9 p.m. and midnight Monday, but untreated roads will remain slick into early Tuesday.

Forecasters expect widespread snowfall totals between a trace and 1 inch, with localized up to 2 inches possible near the Wisconsin–Illinois border, including Janesville, Elkhorn, and Kenosha. The heaviest snow is expected to linger longest in far southern Wisconsin before tapering off late tonight.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation advises drivers to slow down, especially on bridges and overpasses where slick spots have already developed. Visibility could drop to 1 mile or less at times in the steadiest snow bands, particularly along I-39/90, I-43, and I-94 corridors.

Snow rates near 0.25 inch per hour are making roads snow-covered in spots near Madison and Waukesha. Motorists are urged to allow extra time, use headlights, and check 511wi.gov for current travel updates.

Conditions will improve overnight as skies clear and winds calm, though patchy refreezing is likely by dawn.
