Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Light snow and dangerous cold are expected across the Milwaukee area, prompting a hazardous weather outlook from the National Weather Service.
According to the National Weather Service office in Milwaukee/Sullivan, light snow showers will taper off late tonight with no accumulation expected. However, snow chances increase again on Tuesday, with around 1 inch of accumulation possible, mainly along and northwest of the Interstate 90 and Interstate 94 corridor. This may lead to slick roads during the Tuesday evening commute.
Early Tuesday morning temperatures at General Mitchell International Airport were near 12°F, with wind chills around –3°F. Daytime highs are forecast to reach only 23°F, while northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph will keep wind chills between 0°F and –10°F.
Snow chances continue into Tuesday night, with additional light accumulation possible before ending early Wednesday. Overnight lows Tuesday night are expected to fall near 20°F, followed by a colder air mass settling in midweek.
The coldest conditions are forecast Wednesday night into New Year’s Eve, when overnight lows may drop to around 6°F. Wind chills during this period are expected to fall into the single digits and teens below zero, increasing the risk of frostbite for anyone exposed for prolonged periods.
New Year’s Day is expected to remain cold but dry, with partly sunny skies and highs near 19°F. Temperatures remain below normal through the end of the week, with highs generally in the 20s.
Spotter activation is not expected, though snowfall reports will be appreciated on Tuesday.
Commuters, students, and outdoor workers should prepare for slick travel Tuesday evening and dress for dangerous wind chills late week. Residents are urged to monitor updated forecasts and road conditions.
