Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Light snow and a wintry mix are expected to spread across southern Wisconsin late tonight into Friday morning, potentially creating slick travel conditions during the early commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, another round of winter precipitation is forecast to arrive between midnight and 3 a.m. Friday, with precipitation tapering off between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. Snowfall totals are expected to remain around 1 inch or less, though localized higher amounts are possible where bands of steadier snow develop.
Forecasters report higher confidence in a light wintry mix of snow and freezing rain west of Interstate 90, where a glaze of ice may form on untreated surfaces. East of I-90, including areas near I-94 from Madison through Milwaukee and Racine, precipitation is expected to fall primarily as snow.
A narrow band of moderate snow may develop between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. Friday, potentially producing locally higher snowfall rates for a short time. Even brief bursts of heavier snow could quickly reduce visibility and coat roadways, particularly during the early morning hours.
The National Weather Service cautions that slick spots are possible during the Friday morning commute, especially on bridges, overpasses, and lesser-traveled roads. Travel impacts are most likely along major corridors including Interstate 94, Interstate 90, Interstate 39, and surrounding state highways.
While snowfall amounts are expected to be limited, the combination of light snow, patchy ice, and early timing may affect commuters, school transportation, and overnight workers across southern Wisconsin.
Residents are encouraged to allow extra travel time, reduce speeds, and stay alert for changing road conditions overnight into Friday morning. Motorists should continue monitoring forecast updates as small shifts in precipitation bands could affect where snow or ice is most impactful.
