Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Periods of light snow are creating slick travel conditions across parts of southern and eastern Wisconsin this morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, light snow has moved into much of southern Wisconsin and is expected to continue on and off through around noon CST. While snowfall amounts are expected to remain generally light, some slick spots are possible, particularly during the morning commute.
Forecasters say most locations will see one inch or less of accumulation. However, even light snow can lead to reduced traction on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. The greatest concern for slick conditions is across east-central Wisconsin, where snow has been more persistent early this morning.
Travel impacts are most likely along major corridors including Interstate 94, Interstate 43, Interstate 90, and U.S. Highway 41. Radar imagery shows steady light snowfall near Green Bay and Sheboygan earlier this morning, while areas farther southwest have seen more intermittent flurries.
The National Weather Service notes that dry air near the surface initially caused some snow to evaporate before reaching the ground in southwestern Wisconsin. As moisture increases, snowflakes are expected to reach the surface more consistently, which could briefly worsen road conditions.
Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions, especially during peak commute hours. Crews may need time to treat roadways due to the intermittent nature of the snowfall.
Snow is expected to taper off later this morning into early afternoon as drier air moves into the region. No significant additional accumulation is expected after midday.
This alert is especially relevant for commuters, students, and delivery drivers traveling during the morning hours.
Motorists are encouraged to monitor local road conditions and follow updates from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve.
