Milwaukee, Wisconsin — Dense fog developing along the Lake Michigan shoreline could reduce visibility and impact overnight travel through early Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect for lakeshore counties until 6 a.m. Friday, with visibility potentially dropping to one-half mile or less in affected areas.

Forecasters say fog has formed along portions of the Lake Michigan shoreline and may continue to expand inland overnight as moisture and light winds persist across the region. The fog could create rapid changes in visibility, particularly for drivers traveling near the lake.

Motorists traveling through the Milwaukee area along major roadways including Interstate 94, Interstate 43, Interstate 41, and Interstate 794 may encounter patches of dense fog during the overnight hours and early Friday morning.

Reduced visibility can make driving more hazardous, especially during the early morning commute when traffic begins to increase. Drivers may experience sudden visibility drops when moving through thicker fog banks.

Weather officials advise motorists to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra following distance if traveling in foggy conditions. High-beam headlights are discouraged because they can reflect off fog and make visibility worse.

Fog conditions are expected to gradually improve after sunrise Friday as temperatures warm and atmospheric mixing increases. However, localized patches of fog could linger in some areas during the early morning hours.

Residents near the lakeshore are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and advisories overnight as conditions may shift depending on temperature and wind changes.

For commuters and early travelers across the Milwaukee metro area, checking conditions before heading out Friday morning may help avoid hazardous low-visibility driving conditions.
