Milwaukee, Wisconsin – A narrow but potentially intense band of snow is expected to sweep across southern Wisconsin late this morning into early evening, bringing the greatest impacts along and north of I-94 through Saturday afternoon.

Snow is forecast to begin in southwestern parts of the state during the late morning hours, spreading east toward Madison, Waukesha, and Milwaukee between late morning and early afternoon. The heaviest snowfall rates are expected from around noon through 6 p.m., when bursts of snow could fall at rates near one inch per hour in localized areas.

Communities north of Madison and Milwaukee currently appear most likely to see the highest totals, with widespread accumulations of 2 to 4 inches possible. Areas slightly south of the main snow band may receive 1 to 2 inches, though even lower totals could still create hazardous travel due to slick pavement and reduced visibility.

Roadways including I-94, I-41, US-151, and I-43 could become snow-covered quickly during heavier bursts. Visibility may drop sharply at times, especially during the afternoon commute window. Conditions are expected to gradually improve from west to east during the evening hours, with snow tapering off first in southwestern Wisconsin and ending near Lake Michigan later tonight.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time, reduce speeds, and maintain safe following distances. Rapid accumulations during peak snowfall could make untreated roads slippery in a short period of time. Motorists should monitor updated forecasts in case advisories are issued if the heavier snow band shifts slightly.
