Milwaukee, Wisconsin – An overnight burst of accumulating snow is expected to create slippery roads across southern Wisconsin, with impacts most noticeable during the Wednesday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. tonight through 6 a.m. Wednesday for much of south-central and southeast Wisconsin. Snowfall totals of 2 to 5 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts possible near the Illinois border. The most affected areas lie along and south of the U.S. Highway 18 and Interstate 94 corridor.

Communities including Madison, Janesville, Beloit, Whitewater, Lake Geneva, Waukesha, Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha are expected to see steady snow develop this evening, becoming most impactful overnight. Roads may quickly turn snow-covered, especially on untreated surfaces, bridges, and ramps.

The timing of the snow raises concerns for the early Wednesday commute, when slick travel and reduced braking distance could slow traffic across urban and rural routes. Even brief heavier bursts could lower visibility late tonight.

Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and check road conditions before heading out. Pedestrians should also use caution on sidewalks and stairs, which may become icy.

Snow tapers off toward daybreak Wednesday, but lingering impacts are expected. Additional advisories remain possible if snowfall trends higher overnight.
