Milwaukee, Wisconsin – A quick-moving round of light snow is expected across southern Wisconsin this afternoon and evening, potentially creating slick travel along I-94 and I-90.
According to the US National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, the snow will last approximately two to four hours in any single location. The snow is expected to be wet in nature, with brief snowfall rates up to one-half inch per hour during the steadiest periods.
Light accumulations are possible, generally around a half inch to 1 inch, with the highest measurable totals most likely north of Interstate 94. Areas including Fond du Lac and communities north of Milwaukee may see slightly greater impacts.
Snow is forecast to spread from west to east during the afternoon, reaching Madison around midday, Milwaukee between 3 and 4 p.m., and lakeshore communities by late afternoon.
Freezing temperatures combined with slushy accumulations could create slick spots on roads and elevated surfaces, particularly during the evening commute. Travel impacts are possible along I-94 between Madison and Milwaukee, I-90 near Janesville, I-39, and US-41 toward Fond du Lac.
While widespread hazardous conditions are not expected, brief reductions in visibility and patchy slippery roads may develop under heavier bursts.
The timing may especially affect students and evening commuters across southern Wisconsin.
Officials advise allowing extra travel time and monitoring updated road conditions during the afternoon and evening hours.
