Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Two rounds of winter weather are expected today through Friday morning, creating slick travel conditions along major southeastern Wisconsin roadways.
According to the US National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan, the first round of precipitation arrived Thursday morning, with light to moderate snow expected between 6 a.m. and noon. Snowfall rates may briefly reach 0.2 to 0.5 inches per hour, with most locations seeing around 1 inch or less, though localized totals of 1 to 1.5 inches are possible, especially in east-central Wisconsin.
Areas along Interstate 94, Interstate 41, Interstate 43, and Interstate 90, including Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, and Madison, may experience slick spots during the Thursday morning commute. Snow is expected to taper off between noon and 3 p.m., followed by a break in precipitation through the evening hours.
A second round of wintry precipitation is forecast to arrive after midnight, continuing through approximately 9 a.m. Friday. This round may include light snow mixed with freezing drizzle or freezing rain, increasing the risk of icy patches on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Additional accumulations are expected to remain light, generally an inch or less, though even minor icing could impact early-morning travel.
The National Weather Service noted that wintry mix impacts may shift slightly as the system evolves, and residents should stay alert for updated forecasts. No widespread or long-lasting freezing rain is expected at this time.
These conditions may be especially relevant for commuters, students, and early-shift workers traveling during peak morning hours both Thursday and Friday.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and remain cautious on elevated roadways during both precipitation windows.
