Milwaukee, WI – The Milwaukee Police Department has released video related to an officer-involved shooting that occurred earlier this month in the city’s downtown entertainment district, where an officer was injured after being struck by a vehicle.
According to the Milwaukee Police Department, the incident happened at approximately 2:16 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2026, near E. Knapp Street and N. Water Street after officers on patrol heard multiple gunshots.
Police said officers responding on foot observed an Audi leaving the area. As officers attempted to intervene, investigators allege the driver struck one of the officers with the vehicle. Officers, including the injured officer, discharged their firearms at the vehicle.
Authorities said the suspect fled the scene but was later located unoccupied in the 1200 block of W. Fond du Lac Avenue. Investigators determined the driver had been struck by police gunfire. Officers recovered one firearm from inside the suspect’s vehicle and another firearm in the surrounding area.
Police identified the driver only as an 18-year-old male. He was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries before being arrested and criminally charged by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
The injured officer, a 25-year-old woman with less than one year of service, was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Two additional officers involved in the incident—a 28-year-old officer with more than seven years of service and a 27-year-old officer with more than eight years of service—have been placed on administrative duty, which is standard procedure following a critical incident.
The Milwaukee Police Homicide Unit continues to investigate the shooting. The department said the video was released under its officer-involved critical incident video policy. Viewer discretion is advised for those choosing to watch the footage.
