Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Periods of moderate rain are expected from this afternoon through Friday morning, with localized flooding concerns during peak rainfall.
According to the National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan, rainfall totals of 0.25 to 0.75 inches are expected across much of southern Wisconsin. The heaviest rain is forecast between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., coinciding with the afternoon commute.
Forecasters say a few rumbles of thunder are possible this evening, and localized totals of 0.75 inches or more could occur in heavier downpours, particularly toward west-central Wisconsin. Lingering rain may continue overnight into Friday morning.
Warm temperatures combined with new rainfall and recent snowmelt could lead to ponding on roadways, minor flooding in low-lying and river-adjacent areas, and ice jam potential on area rivers and creeks. Officials warn that once ice jams form, water levels can rise rapidly.
Drivers are urged not to attempt to cross flooded roadways and to use caution during periods of reduced visibility and standing water.
For commuters, the greatest impacts are expected during the late-afternoon and early-evening travel window.
