Milwaukee, WI – A Milwaukee man has been charged in connection with a deadly October 20 shooting on the city’s north side that left one man dead and two others injured, according to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities allege Martell D. Haire, 37, was responsible for the shooting that occurred around 9 p.m. near 7936 West Hampton Avenue. The incident reportedly followed an argument inside a residence before gunfire erupted, striking multiple people.
According to the criminal complaint, officers arrived to find Marquis Champion fatally wounded inside a vehicle. Two additional victims, both suffering from gunshot injuries, were taken to local hospitals for emergency treatment.
Prosecutors have charged Haire with First-Degree Reckless Homicide, Use of a Dangerous Weapon, two counts of First-Degree Reckless Injury, First-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Each charge includes an enhancer for use of a dangerous weapon.
If convicted on all counts, Haire faces up to 141 years and six months in prison and fines totaling $250,000. Court records also note a prior felony conviction from 2006.
Police say Haire remains at large and are asking for the public’s help locating him. Anyone with information is urged to contact Milwaukee Police or remain anonymous through Milwaukee Crime Stoppers.
The Milwaukee Police Department expressed condolences to the victim’s family and others affected by the violence.
