Milwaukee, WI – A 6-year-old child has tragically died from a gunshot wound after gaining access to a firearm on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. The incident, which occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the 4200 block of N. 51st Boulevard, led to criminal charges against two individuals, Daquela S. Collins and Quintell S. Collins.
Daquela faces charges including one count of Neglecting a Child – Consequence is Death, as well as Straw Purchasing of a Firearm. If convicted, she could face up to 35 years in prison and a fine of up to $125,000. Quintell is charged with similar offenses, including one count of Neglecting a Child – Consequence is Death and additional charges related to firearms and fleeing from an officer. He could face up to 116 years in prison and a fine of up to $295,000 if convicted.
The tragedy occurred just days before the child’s birthday. The Milwaukee Police Department has emphasized the importance of securing firearms with a gunlock and keeping them out of children’s reach. The department also reminds the public to never purchase firearms for individuals who are prohibited from possessing them.
Milwaukee Police are urging anyone interested in obtaining a gunlock to contact their local police district for information on where to obtain one.
