Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Blowing snow and strong winds are expected to create hazardous travel conditions across the Milwaukee area tonight and into Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, snow will continue moving west to east this afternoon, with an additional 1 to 2 inches of accumulation expected. As winds increase overnight, gusts up to 40 mph are forecast to develop, leading to blowing and drifting snow.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from this evening through Monday morning. Forecasters say the most dangerous conditions are likely after midnight, when snowfall tapers off but winds become stronger, reducing visibility to around a half mile at times.
The National Weather Service warns that road conditions may deteriorate quickly, particularly on Interstate 94, Interstate 43, Interstate 41, and area highways, where open stretches are prone to blowing snow. The Monday morning commute could be impacted by slick roads and reduced visibility.
Winds are expected to gradually weaken later Monday morning, with conditions slowly improving through the afternoon as blowing snow diminishes. Gusts may still reach 25 mph in spots even after snowfall ends.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and be prepared for sudden visibility drops overnight and early Monday. Emergency kits are recommended for those traveling during the advisory period.
The National Weather Service emphasized that wind-driven snow, not heavy accumulation, will be the primary hazard during this event.
