Milwaukee, WI – Light freezing drizzle may develop across parts of southern Wisconsin late tonight, creating isolated slick spots before temperatures rise above freezing overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, light precipitation will move into southern Wisconsin this evening, with temperatures warm enough for rain or drizzle across most areas. However, a brief window for freezing drizzle is possible between 9 p.m. and midnight, mainly along and north of U.S. Highway 151.
Forecast graphics show temperatures hovering near 32 degrees in northern portions of the region during that time, increasing the potential for a light glaze of ice on elevated and untreated surfaces, including bridges and overpasses. The National Weather Service noted that any icing should be brief and limited.
After midnight, temperatures are expected to rise above freezing across all of southern Wisconsin, allowing precipitation to transition to all rain. Any ice that forms is expected to melt quickly as warmer air moves in. Rain is forecast to continue overnight before ending after 6 a.m. Friday.
Earlier this morning, temperatures dipping below freezing created a few slick spots on untreated roads, particularly along portions of Interstate 94 and U.S. Highway 18 during the morning commute.
The National Weather Service urges drivers to use caution tonight, especially when traveling north into central Wisconsin, and to stay alert for changing road conditions.
