Milwaukee, WI — The National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan reports that light snow and freezing drizzle are moving south across Wisconsin early Wednesday morning, creating slick and potentially hazardous travel conditions for the morning commute.

As of 4:10 a.m. CST, radar indicated light snow pushing in from the north and expanding across southern parts of the state. Areas from Watertown to Milwaukee and Madison may experience patchy freezing drizzle, while drizzle or light rain is being observed farther south where surface temperatures are slightly above freezing.

Forecasters caution that even a light glaze of ice can make untreated roads, bridges, and sidewalks slippery. “Drivers should use extra caution this morning,” the NWS said. “Travel could be difficult on elevated surfaces and lesser-traveled roads until conditions improve later this morning.”

The freezing drizzle will gradually transition to light snow through mid-morning as colder air settles in behind the passing front. Snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are possible, primarily north of Interstate 94, with minor accumulations expected farther south.

By midday, precipitation should taper off, leaving behind cloudy skies and temperatures in the low to mid-30s. Winds will shift northwest and remain breezy through the afternoon.

Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and check local road conditions before heading out. Plows and treatment crews are already addressing slick spots on major highways, including I-39, I-43, and I-94.

The remainder of the week looks quiet and colder, with highs staying in the upper 20s to lower 30s under mostly cloudy skies.
