Milwaukee, Wis. – Dangerous swimming conditions are expected along Lake Michigan through Friday morning, with life-threatening waves up to 7 feet possible from Sheboygan south through Kenosha.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, a Beach Hazards Statement is in effect beginning at noon Thursday as strong north to northeast winds build high waves and trigger rip currents. Northerly facing beaches and piers will be most vulnerable to dangerous surf.
Thunderstorms remain possible early Thursday, though most activity is expected to taper by midday. Areas from Green Lake to Milwaukee may see lingering showers, with gusty winds creating additional hazards on the lakefront.
Officials urge swimmers to stay out of the water and away from piers and breakwalls. Longshore and structural currents are likely, and even experienced swimmers could be swept offshore. Residents should also prepare for limited beach access and hazardous boating conditions through Friday morning.
Conditions will gradually improve by Friday afternoon, with calmer weather settling in for the weekend. However, beachgoers are advised to remain cautious until advisories are lifted.
