Milwaukee, WI – Spring in Wisconsin is off to a wintry start this week as thunderstorms, freezing rain, and snow threaten the Milwaukee metro area through Monday morning. Commuters across southeastern Wisconsin—including those traveling I-94 and I-43—should prepare for slick, potentially icy roads late Sunday night into early Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, rain will turn into a mix of snow and sleet by 2 a.m. Monday. Temperatures will dip into the low 30s overnight, creating conditions ripe for freezing rain. Thunderstorms earlier in the evening may intensify along the Wisconsin-Illinois border, with hail possible. Winds will shift northwest between 10 to 15 mph, pushing colder air into the region.

While snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, even minor accumulations paired with freezing rain could create hazardous travel conditions during the morning rush. Monday will stay cold, with highs near 42°F and partly sunny skies.

Looking ahead, the unsettled spring weather pattern continues:

  • Tuesday: Partly sunny early, then rain and snow return in the afternoon. Wind gusts may hit 30 mph. High of 41°F.
  • Wednesday: Rain with a high near 64°F, breezy and gusty at times.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny and calm, high of 63°F.
  • Friday: Clear skies and warmer temps continue with highs near 49°F.
