Milwaukee, Wis. – Drivers across southern Wisconsin will face challenging travel conditions this afternoon as a swath of moderate rainfall continues moving southeast along the I-90 and I-94 corridor. Rain rates are reaching up to half an inch per hour, with visibility dropping as low as three miles in heavier downpours.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, the rain band will progress southeast through the evening, bringing accumulations between half an inch and one inch. While an isolated rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out, the chance remains low, between 10% and 15%.
The heaviest rain was observed midday near Wisconsin Dells and Portage before pushing toward Madison and Janesville. Travel impacts include wet, slick pavement and reduced visibility on major highways, especially I-39/90 near Madison and I-94 toward Milwaukee. Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time for the evening commute.
The rainfall is expected to taper late tonight as the system shifts farther southeast, but isolated showers may linger in portions of southeastern Wisconsin.
