Milwaukee, Wis. – Heavy rain and localized flash flooding could disrupt much of southern Wisconsin through Monday as slow-moving storms track across the region. Rainfall rates of more than 2 inches per hour are possible, raising concerns for urban flooding and water-covered roads in cities including Milwaukee, Madison, and Janesville.

According to the National Weather Service in Sullivan, multiple rounds of storms will move across southern and central Wisconsin, with the heaviest rainfall expected Monday into Monday night. While widespread flash flooding is not expected, the Weather Service notes that localized pockets could see flooding where storms repeatedly pass over the same areas.

Communities along the I-94 corridor, including Waukesha and Racine, face the highest chance of seeing rapid runoff that could overwhelm storm drains and flood low-lying roads. Emergency officials urge drivers to avoid flooded roadways and commuters to allow extra travel time through the evening rush hour.

Residents are encouraged to keep phones charged in case of power outages and secure outdoor belongings ahead of the storms. More updates are expected as additional rounds of rainfall develop through Monday night.
