Milwaukee, WI – Motorists across southern Wisconsin are waking to dense fog and reduced visibility this morning, prompting a Dense Fog Advisory through 8 a.m. CST, according to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan.

The advisory covers far southern portions of the state, including Dodgeville, Janesville, Monroe, and Waukesha, where visibility may drop to a quarter mile or less in spots. While air temperatures hover near freezing, road temperatures are expected to stay slightly above freezing, minimizing the risk of widespread ice.

However, forecasters note a few slick patches can’t be ruled out, especially on bridges and elevated surfaces. Drivers are urged to slow down, use low beam headlights, and allow extra travel time until fog lifts later this morning.

The National Weather Service reports that fog will gradually clear after 8 a.m. as light winds and daytime heating improve visibility. Conditions are expected to remain mild later in the day, with highs in the 50s.
