Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Unhealthy air is back across Milwaukee and much of Wisconsin, with wildfire smoke driving air quality into dangerous territory for sensitive groups through at least noon Tuesday. Hazy skies and the smell of smoke are expected to linger, reducing visibility and making outdoor activities riskier, especially for children, seniors, and those with heart or lung conditions.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, an Air Quality Advisory for PM2.5 particles covers all of southern and central Wisconsin, including Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, and surrounding counties. The alert is in effect until at least noon Tuesday, with air quality index (AQI) values expected to reach “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.” Smoke from ongoing Canadian wildfires continues to recirculate over the region, creating dense haze and irritation.
Residents should limit time outdoors, keep windows closed, and use air purifiers if available. Those with asthma or heart issues should follow their action plans and have medication handy. Road visibility may be reduced in spots, especially overnight and early Tuesday. While a slight improvement is possible by midweek, smoke concerns could return if winds shift again.
More advisories may be issued if smoke persists beyond Tuesday. The next update will be released if conditions worsen or additional hazards emerge.
