Milwaukee, WI – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for much of southern Wisconsin tonight as a quick-moving snow system moves through the region, bringing 2–5 inches of accumulation and hazardous travel conditions into early Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, snow will begin between 7–10 p.m. Saturday, increasing in intensity after midnight. The heaviest snowfall is expected between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday, with rates reaching up to one inch per hour at times, especially in southwest and southeast Wisconsin.
Forecast maps show Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Madison expecting 2–4 inches, while Darlington, Monroe, and Janesville could see 3–5 inches with isolated 6-inch totals possible near the Wisconsin–Illinois state line. Lighter amounts of 1–3 inches are expected north of I-94.
The snow is expected to taper off by 6–9 a.m. Sunday, but slick roads and reduced visibility may impact early church and work commutes. The NWS cautions that snow will be light and powdery, leading to possible drifting and slippery travel.
Drivers are urged to allow extra time and check road conditions before traveling. Temperatures are expected to remain in the 20s overnight, keeping untreated surfaces icy into the morning hours.
