Milwaukee, WI – Storms will ramp up quickly this evening, with widespread rain and lightning expected to impact the evening commute and overnight travel across southeast Wisconsin.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, storm chances surge after 6 p.m., with coverage reaching 60 to 80 percent across cities including Milwaukee, Madison, Kenosha, and Sheboygan through midnight. Brief heavy downpours and frequent lightning are the primary threats, with isolated small hail possible west of Madison.

Rain will continue in waves through Sunday, though it will not be a washout. Periods of showers and a few rumbles of thunder are expected Sunday night into early Monday, followed by a brief lull during the daytime hours Monday.

The more serious concern develops Monday evening through Wednesday, when multiple rounds of storms could bring localized flooding and rising river levels. Some of these storms may turn strong to severe, though exact timing and placement remain uncertain.

Drivers should avoid flooded roadways and plan for reduced visibility during heavier bursts of rain tonight. Residents are urged to charge devices and enable weather alerts as conditions remain active into midweek, with additional advisories likely.
