Milwaukee, WI – Dangerous waves up to 6 feet are pounding Lake Michigan’s shoreline, creating hazardous swimming conditions from Sheboygan through Kenosha through at least Monday afternoon. Strong rip currents, pounding surf, and rapidly changing winds are making beaches and breakwalls unsafe.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, beach hazard alerts remain in effect as southeast winds continue to drive waves into shoreline communities. Northern-facing piers and breakwalls are most at risk overnight, shifting to southern exposures Monday as winds turn more southeasterly. Officials warn swimmers to stay out of the water and away from piers, jetties, and breakwalls.
Beyond the lakefront, showers and thunderstorms will remain a concern across southeastern Wisconsin Monday afternoon into Tuesday morning. The storms could bring cloud-to-ground lightning, heavy downpours, and gusty winds, particularly in Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Racine Counties. Localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas with repeated rounds of rain.
Travelers are urged to monitor changing conditions, avoid flooded roads, and use caution during evening and overnight commutes. Residents along the lakefront should also secure loose outdoor items as winds increase.
Hazardous lake and storm conditions may persist through Tuesday morning, with more updates expected if advisories are extended.
