Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Drivers across Milwaukee are facing hazardous travel conditions Monday morning as strong winds whip powdery snow across roadways, sharply reducing visibility during the commute. Gusts topping 40 mph are creating areas of drifting snow, making lanes difficult to see and increasing the risk of sudden slowdowns.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, northwest winds between 30 and 40 mph are expected through late morning, capable of blowing around recently fallen snow even where plowing has already occurred. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midday for much of southern Wisconsin due to blowing snow and reduced visibility.
Major routes including I-94, I-43, I-41, and the Marquette Interchange are seeing rapidly changing conditions, particularly on open stretches and elevated ramps. Wisconsin DOT officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra following distance, and be prepared for brief whiteouts. Even light drifting can quickly cover treated pavement, making braking unpredictable.
Attention then turns to another system expected to arrive Tuesday evening into early Wednesday, bringing additional snow. Forecast guidance shows 1 to 3 inches likely across southern Wisconsin, with locally higher amounts possible in narrow bands. Motorists are encouraged to monitor updates as timing and impacts become clearer, especially for overnight and early morning travel.
