Milwaukee, Wisconsin – A warm surge pushing temperatures near 80°F Monday will give way to multiple rounds of thunderstorms that could intensify and impact travel by Tuesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, isolated to scattered storms may develop Monday evening into the overnight hours, with a few capable of producing hail. These early storms are expected to remain limited in coverage but could still bring brief downpours and lightning.
The more widespread and impactful round arrives Tuesday as a cold front moves through Wisconsin. Storms are expected to increase in coverage by late morning into the afternoon, with the potential for large hail and damaging wind gusts near 60 mph, especially along the I-94 corridor from Madison through Milwaukee to Kenosha.
Timing will play a key role in storm intensity, but forecasters note that if storms develop during the afternoon, the risk for stronger impacts increases. Areas farther inland, including Waukesha and Jefferson counties, could see stronger cells develop ahead of the front.
Drivers should prepare for rapidly changing conditions, including reduced visibility and water-covered roads during heavier downpours. Residents are urged to stay alert for warnings Tuesday.
Storms taper off Tuesday evening, but additional updates are expected as confidence in timing and severity improves.
