Milwaukee, WI – Heavy snow bands are sweeping through southern Wisconsin, creating dangerous travel conditions. A major snow band is moving northeast from Janesville to Milwaukee, with snowfall rates between 0.5 to 0.75 inches per hour. Some areas could see snowfall rates as high as 1 inch per hour.

According to the National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan, another snow band is moving northeast from eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois, eventually reaching southern Wisconsin. This system will bring additional snowfall, making roads slick and reducing visibility.

Snow-covered roads and slippery conditions are expected through tonight. Drivers should use caution, reduce speeds, and allow extra travel time. Visibility could drop to as low as a mile in some areas.

Lower snowfall rates are possible outside the main snow bands, but accumulations will still impact travel. Snow is expected to continue into southeast Wisconsin overnight.

Authorities urge residents to stay updated on road conditions and avoid unnecessary travel. If driving is necessary, keep an emergency kit in your vehicle and drive slowly.
