Milwaukee, WI – Holiday travel across southern Wisconsin is on track for major disruption as the season’s first significant snowstorm moves in early Saturday, with heavy snow and dangerous driving conditions expected to last through Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the entire region from early Saturday through Sunday morning, with the worst conditions likely between noon Saturday and midnight. Areas along and south of I-94 and US-18—including Milwaukee, Waukesha, Janesville, and Kenosha—are expected to see the heaviest snow, enhanced by lake-effect bands near Lake Michigan.

Snowfall rates may exceed 1 inch per hour at times, rapidly covering roads and reducing visibility. Forecasters warn that even minor shifts in the storm’s track could significantly change snow totals, with possible accumulations ranging from 6 to 10 inches in most areas, and locally higher amounts near the lakeshore.

Road conditions will deteriorate quickly Saturday, especially in the evening. Travelers are strongly urged to delay any Saturday-Saturday night travel plans, especially for Thanksgiving weekend returns. While conditions may improve by Sunday afternoon, lingering snow showers, gusty winds, and slick spots will continue to cause issues on major highways and secondary roads.
