MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Heavy rainfall has pushed rivers across southeastern Wisconsin beyond flood stage, with several communities facing closures and waterlogged neighborhoods through midweek. The National Weather Service reports the Milwaukee River near Cedarburg will crest around 13.4 feet Tuesday morning, inundating roads in Mequon, Thiensville, and Saukville before slowly receding below flood stage early Thursday.
According to the NWS Milwaukee/Sullivan office, the Fox River in Waukesha is near 8.8 feet — just shy of a record crest — with water impacting Frame Park, several downtown bridges, and residential areas along Bethesda Court. Levels are expected to drop below flood stage late Wednesday morning.
Cedar Creek in Cedarburg is spilling into Cedar Creek Park and surrounding streets, while the Root River at Franklin has flooded portions of Root River Parkway and Oakwood Road, though water levels there are falling. The Menomonee River at Menomonee Falls remains above flood stage with minor flooding.
Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and obey barricades. Walking near swollen riverbanks remains dangerous, especially at night. Additional warnings may be issued if rain returns later this week.
