Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Residents across southern Wisconsin should prepare for a prolonged period of dangerous heat and humidity this weekend, with temperatures soaring into the mid-90s and heat index values reaching 105 degrees Fahrenheit. This severe heat poses a significant risk to public health, particularly for vulnerable populations.

According to the US National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan Wisconsin, high temperatures from Saturday through Monday are expected to range from 92 to 96 degrees Fahrenheit. Coupled with dewpoints in the lower 70s, the heat index will create conditions that feel significantly hotter, potentially reaching 100 to 105 degrees. Breezy southwest winds will offer little relief.

In Milwaukee, city officials are urging residents to identify cooling options such as libraries and malls. Limiting outdoor activities, staying hydrated, and checking on elderly, sick, or un-air-conditioned neighbors are crucial. Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, as interior temperatures can rapidly become fatal. Covering windows with drapes or shades and ensuring AC units and fans are operational will help keep homes cooler.

This weekend’s conditions are similar to previous heat waves experienced in the region, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures. The persistent high temperatures and humidity will elevate the risk of heat-related illnesses, including heat stroke and exhaustion.

Warnings remain in effect through Monday, with the National Weather Service advising continued vigilance and preparedness as the dangerous heat continues into the start of next week.
