Milwaukee, Wis. – Heavy rain and repeated rounds of thunderstorms are expected to soak southeast Wisconsin through early Monday, prompting an expanded Flood Watch for the region. The National Weather Service warns that rainfall totals could exceed 4 inches in some areas, with locally higher amounts possible.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, the Flood Watch covers communities from Milwaukee and Racine west to Dodgeville and Monroe, remaining in effect until 7 a.m. Monday. With saturated ground from earlier storms, flash flooding could develop quickly, especially in urban and low-lying areas.

Drivers should remain alert for water-covered roads, particularly during the overnight hours when visibility is limited. Officials urge motorists to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” and avoid flooded intersections. Commuters Monday morning may encounter road closures and delays if flooding persists.

The heaviest rain is expected from late Saturday night into early Monday, with thunderstorms producing rapid water rises in streams and drainage ditches. Emergency management agencies recommend securing outdoor items, clearing storm drains, and preparing for potential basement flooding.

More rounds of showers are likely Monday before drier weather returns midweek, but officials caution additional advisories could be issued if rainfall totals climb higher than expected.
