Milwaukee, WI – A conditional but concerning severe weather threat looms over southern Wisconsin Thursday afternoon and evening, with Milwaukee among the areas at risk for dangerous storms.
According to the US National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan, the highest threat window spans from 2 PM to 10 PM Thursday, when large hail, tornadoes, and damaging winds could develop if storms are able to form. The risk remains conditional due to dry and warm mid-level air, which could inhibit storm development altogether.
Two scenarios are being closely monitored. In the first, drier air dominates and significantly limits storm activity. In the second, which forecasters say cannot be ruled out, moisture breaks through, allowing storms to rapidly intensify. Should that occur, the region could experience very large hail, tornadoes, and strong wind gusts.
Residents in Milwaukee and across southern Wisconsin are urged to monitor weather alerts closely, especially during the mid to late afternoon hours. Secure outdoor items, have a shelter plan, and ensure mobile devices are charged with emergency notifications enabled.
If severe storms develop, they are expected to peak in coverage between 2 PM and 10 PM, then move east of the region later Thursday night.
