MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Milwaukee is facing the threat of another six inches of rain on Monday, compounding damage from historic flash flooding that already swamped streets, homes, and businesses over the weekend. The Wisconsin State Fair closed early Sunday as storms unloaded a third of the city’s average monthly rainfall in just 24 hours — a mark that could set a local record.

According to the National Weather Service, flood alerts remain in effect from Kansas to Wisconsin through this morning, with southeast Wisconsin expected to see one to six inches of additional rainfall. Several residents described the flooding as unprecedented, with water levels cutting off road access and straining storm drains.

City crews worked overnight to clear debris from intersections, while Milwaukee County officials urged drivers to avoid standing water and check alternate routes. The Milwaukee Department of Public Works said teams are monitoring underpasses and low-lying roads, which remain vulnerable to rapid flooding.

Rain is expected to taper by early Tuesday, but saturated ground and swollen rivers could prolong the risk of street closures. Officials warn more advisories may follow if storms redevelop later in the week.
