Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Drivers across southern Wisconsin should expect pockets of dense fog early Monday, with visibility dropping below one mile in some areas west of the Kettle Moraine. The fog is expected to lift quickly after sunrise, but could briefly impact the morning commute, especially near rivers, creeks, and valleys.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, low-lying areas including parts of Dane, Jefferson, Dodge, and Waukesha counties may see sudden reductions in visibility through around 7 a.m. Monday. Conditions are especially variable near the Wisconsin River and in rural zones, where cooler air has pooled overnight.

Motorists are urged to slow down, use low beam headlights, and allow extra following distance if fog is encountered. Those traveling along I-94, Highway 18, and rural county roads should plan for slightly longer drive times early in the morning.

The fog is expected to dissipate rapidly after sunrise as temperatures rise, with clearer skies anticipated for the rest of Labor Day.

More weather statements are possible if overnight cooling conditions return later this week.
