Milwaukee, WI – A Milwaukee County Sheriff’s deputy narrowly avoided injury after his squad car was struck twice on I-43 late Monday. Both incidents involved alleged impaired driving, officials said.
The first crash occurred shortly before 9 p.m. when the deputy exited his squad to remove debris near 60th Street. Moments later, another driver, allegedly under the influence, hit the vehicle. Deputies said the driver admitted to consuming alcohol earlier.
About three minutes later, another squad car stopped at the scene to manage traffic flow. Before its driver exited, another vehicle struck it. The second driver reportedly did not realize the lane closure was imminent.
No injuries were reported, but both squad cars sustained damage. Greenfield Police will investigate to determine whether charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities stressed the importance of moving over and slowing down near emergency vehicles. Wisconsin recently illuminated the Hoan Bridge to promote public safety awareness.
