Milwaukee, Wisconsin – A cold front sweeping across Wisconsin Thursday afternoon promises relief from dangerous heat, but not before southeast cities like Milwaukee and Kenosha see heat indices nearing 100 degrees. Drivers and outdoor workers should prepare for rapidly changing conditions, including late-day thunderstorms and a sharp drop in temperature.

According to the National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan, the front will move in by early afternoon, capping the worst heat mostly to the south and east of the state. While west and north of the Milwaukee Metro may stay below 100 for the heat index, areas stretching from Madison through Racine could see sweltering “feels like” temps well into the upper 90s before storms and thick clouds push in.

Thursday afternoon and evening will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms, with the greatest chances east of the cold front’s track. Emergency managers urge residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, hydrate frequently, and be ready for sudden downpours on major roads like I-94 and US-41.

Power outages and street flooding are possible where storms hit hardest. The threat for excessive heat and storms should ease after sunset, but more advisories could be issued if the front stalls or intensifies
