Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Southern Wisconsin will sizzle this Independence Day, as heat index values climb into the mid to upper 90s and humidity builds through Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, highs from the upper 80s to lower 90s are expected both Thursday and Saturday, with a heat index nearing 95°F during peak hours. A slight chance of isolated storms may develop Thursday afternoon and again Friday night into Saturday, but no widespread washouts are expected.

In Milwaukee and along the Lake Michigan shoreline, temperatures may be slightly cooler due to lake breezes, with highs closer to the upper 80s on the Fourth. Inland areas like Waukesha, Janesville, and Madison will feel the full effect of the heat, with highs pushing 91°F and humid conditions persisting overnight.

Officials recommend limiting outdoor activity during peak heat hours, staying hydrated, and checking on vulnerable neighbors. Those attending fireworks or parades should prepare for sticky conditions and remain weather-aware in case of pop-up storms.

Hot, humid weather is expected to continue into Saturday evening, when storm chances increase slightly. More updates may follow as thunderstorm timing becomes clearer.
