Millwood, WA – A 48-year-old man with a lengthy criminal history was arrested Saturday afternoon after allegedly attempting to burglarize a Millwood business and fleeing from deputies, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 2:25 p.m. on January 18 to a burglary in progress at a business in the 9200 block of East Trent Avenue. The business owner, monitoring security video, told authorities he saw a man trying to break into the building. Deputies later identified the suspect as Lawrence D. Jones.

When a deputy arrived, Jones allegedly tried to pry open a window before walking away from the scene. As deputies approached, Jones reportedly fled on foot but was caught a short time later in a nearby parking lot on North Argonne Road. Deputies say Jones had a cut on his hand and blood consistent with broken glass from the attempted break-in.

According to investigators, Jones admitted to being at the business but denied trying to enter. Deputies recovered Land Rover keys and a ski mask during the arrest.

Jones was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of second-degree burglary, third-degree malicious mischief, and obstructing. Authorities say his criminal record includes more than 50 arrests with prior convictions for fraud, theft, burglary, and resisting arrest.
