Millsboro, Delaware – A Millsboro man faces murder charges after a fatal shooting inside a home prompted a state police homicide investigation Thursday afternoon.
According to Delaware State Police, troopers responded around 12:10 p.m. Thursday, March 19, to a residence on White Pine Drive in The Pines at Long Neck community after a 911 call reported a shooting. Investigators said a third-party caller told dispatchers that 40-year-old John Sulecki allegedly shot a 72-year-old female family member during an argument.
Troopers arrived and took Sulecki into custody without incident. The victim was found inside the residence with a suspected gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
Due to the nature of the incident, the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit assumed the investigation. Detectives determined the shooting occurred in a back room of the home during a dispute between Sulecki and the victim.
Sulecki was transported to Troop 7, where he was charged with first-degree murder, a felony, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was later arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $1,060,000 cash bond.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Detective D. Patterson at (302) 365-8471 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) 847-3333.
The incident may raise concerns for residents and commuters in the Long Neck area as police activity increased following the response.
