Chicago, Ill. – A fast-moving winter storm is sweeping through the Midwest Monday, bringing a mix of snow, sleet, and ice from Arkansas to Ohio. Roads are already slick across parts of central and southern states, and conditions are expected to worsen by this evening’s commute.
According to the National Weather Service, Winter Weather Advisories are in effect across multiple states including Arkansas, Illinois, and Ohio through early Tuesday. Northern Arkansas will see light ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch, while portions of Illinois and Indiana are bracing for 2 to 5 inches of snow. Forecasters say heavier snow bands may form south of Interstate 80, potentially creating near-whiteout conditions during peak travel hours.
In Ohio, snow will begin overnight, with the heaviest accumulation between 4 and 9 a.m. Tuesday, impacting the morning commute in cities like Cleveland, Canton, and Akron. Drivers should expect icy bridges, low visibility, and slippery interstates including I-55, I-70, and I-75.
Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra time, and check state road condition sites before traveling. The storm is expected to move east by Tuesday afternoon, leaving behind cold air and scattered snow showers through midweek.
