Paducah, KY – A surge of thunderstorms is set to drench Kentucky and neighboring Midwest states with up to 10 inches of rain through Saturday, triggering widespread concerns over flash flooding and river overflow.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, KY, the Quad State region—encompassing western Kentucky, southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and southwest Indiana—is expected to receive 3 to 7 inches of rainfall, with some localized areas, including Paducah and Madisonville, seeing between 6 to 10 inches. The heaviest rainfall is projected along the Green and Little Rivers and portions of the Ohio River, increasing the risk of both flash and river flooding.

Forecasters say the rain will fall in multiple waves beginning Wednesday, continuing through Friday night and into Saturday. High soil saturation and repeated rounds of storms elevate the flood risk, especially in low-lying areas.

Residents in flood-prone zones should stay alert for flash flood warnings and monitor local emergency alerts. Avoid driving through flooded roadways and prepare emergency kits with essentials.

This rainfall far exceeds typical early April precipitation levels in the region, and the evolving storm track may shift the highest impact zones. The National Weather Service encourages staying updated with forecast briefings throughout the event.
