Columbus, Ohio – A taste of fall is set to arrive in Ohio by Sunday as a large pocket of cooler, drier air moves into the state, dropping temperatures well below seasonal norms through the end of August. The shift could bring a welcome break from recent summer humidity, with highs expected to trend closer to September averages.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, the Climate Prediction Center projects a strong signal for below-normal temperatures across the Ohio Valley between August 25 and early September. The pattern will begin building late this weekend, with cooler air settling in by Sunday night and holding into early next week.

Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus are expected to see daytime highs dip into the 70s, with nighttime lows potentially dropping into the 50s in some rural areas. Northern Ohio, including Cleveland and Toledo, may experience a sharper cool-down, particularly during the 6–10 day outlook window. Drivers should anticipate early morning fog and heavier dew as drier air mixes with lingering ground moisture.

The fall-like stretch is expected to continue through Labor Day week, with additional updates possible if the cool pattern lingers into September.
