INDIANA — The Hoosier State wakes to calm skies this morning, but that still air won’t last long. A late November weather shift is on the way, bringing steady rain, falling temperatures, and even a few flurries as Thanksgiving approaches. The week begins mild, but by Tuesday night, much of central Indiana — including Indianapolis — could see a quick burst of winter-like air and breezy conditions just as travel intensifies across the Midwest.

According to the National Weather Service Indianapolis, Monday stays mostly cloudy but quiet, with highs near 54°F and a light south breeze. Clouds build quickly, however, as a moisture-packed cold front approaches. Rain showers are expected to develop by late Monday night, becoming more widespread Tuesday afternoon. Some spots along I-70 and I-65 could see heavier bursts of rain during the evening commute.

As colder air sweeps in Tuesday night, temperatures drop into the 30s, and rain may briefly mix with light snow or flurries, especially north and west of Indianapolis. While no accumulation is expected, slick spots and low visibility could slow early travelers heading toward Chicago or Cincinnati.

Wednesday stays chilly and breezy, with highs struggling into the low 40s and a chance of flurries through midday. Thanksgiving Day looks calmer — cold but bright — with sunshine and highs near 38°F, ideal for travel or outdoor gatherings.

Across the U.S., models continue hinting at a larger winter system developing after Thanksgiving, which could impact Black Friday travel and kickstart a stretch of below-normal temperatures into early December.
