Kansas City, Mo. – Heavy rain is set to drench parts of the central U.S. through Thursday evening, with up to 4 inches expected across sections of Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska—raising the risk of flash flooding and travel disruption.

According to the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center, upper-level disturbances are tapping into deep tropical moisture, generating rounds of storms through Thursday, June 26. The heaviest rainfall is likely to focus across northern Missouri into southern Iowa, where rainfall rates may exceed 2 inches per hour at times.

Localized flash flooding is possible, particularly in low-lying areas and along small creeks and rivers. Urban zones like Des Moines, Kansas City, and Omaha could see storm drains overwhelmed and roads briefly impassable. In Texas and Oklahoma, a second surge of rain may bring similar flooding potential.

Drivers should avoid water-covered roads and monitor alerts from local emergency managers. Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to have backup power options and emergency kits ready, especially in rural zones where road access may be cut off.

Additional rounds of rain remain possible into the weekend as the pattern persists.
