Quad Cities, IA/IL – The National Weather Service is warning residents across Iowa and Illinois of a dynamic weather pattern set to impact the region on Wednesday. Scattered storms, strong winds, and significant temperature swings will create hazardous conditions throughout the day.

According to the NWS Quad Cities, scattered storms will develop early Wednesday morning, mainly affecting eastern Iowa. Some of these storms may bring pea to quarter-sized hail. By the afternoon, severe storms are possible, particularly south of Interstate 80, where temperatures could reach 70°F. Northern areas will remain cooler, with highs near 50°F.

Strong winds will accompany the system, with gusts increasing through the day. By evening, rain is expected to transition into snow as temperatures drop to the 20s overnight. Additionally, an elevated fire threat exists in southern areas due to warm and windy conditions.

Residents are advised to stay weather-aware and monitor local forecasts. Travelers should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions, and those in fire-prone areas should take necessary precautions. For updates, visit weather.gov/quadcities/weatherstory.
