Eagle River, WI – A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for Vilas County from late Tuesday night through late Wednesday night, with forecasters warning of 6 to 14 inches of snow and strong winds likely to cause dangerous travel conditions, according to the National Weather Service in Green Bay.

The heaviest snowfall is expected across northwestern Vilas County, where totals could exceed a foot. Northwest winds gusting 25 to 35 mph will create considerable blowing and drifting snow, leading to reduced visibility and snow-covered roads throughout the Northwoods.

The NWS says travel could become very difficult to impossible, especially during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Both holiday travelers and hunters are urged to prepare for rapidly deteriorating road conditions and to monitor forecast updates as the storm develops.

Hazardous conditions may persist into Wednesday night as snow bands continue and winds remain strong.
