Chicago, IL – The Midwest is bracing for the coldest night of November as temperatures plunge into the 20s and teens across much of the region. According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, the widespread chill will grip the area Monday night, November 10, into early Tuesday, November 11, bringing frost, freezing temperatures, and biting wind chills from Minnesota to Ohio.

Forecast lows include 15–20°F in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin, low-20s across Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana, and mid-20s to near 30°F in Missouri, Kentucky, and Ohio. Wind chills will make it feel even colder — as low as the teens across most of the region, and single digits in the far north.

The National Weather Service has issued freeze warnings for dozens of metro areas, including Minneapolis, Des Moines, Chicago, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Columbus, and Cleveland. Forecasters say this widespread cold snap will mark the end of the growing season for the entire Midwest and signal an early start to winter-like conditions.

Gusty northwest winds will linger overnight, keeping temperatures from recovering quickly. Lake-effect flurries are possible near Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, and Lake Erie, while clear skies elsewhere will allow for rapid overnight cooling.

The Weather Prediction Center’s Hazards Outlook places the Midwest at the center of a coast-to-coast “Frost/Freeze” zone, spanning from the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast — one of the broadest November cold waves in several years.

Tuesday’s highs will stay unseasonably low, only reaching the upper-30s north and low-40s farther south.
